Today I learnt that The Pre-Raphaelites were a group of English artists who formed their "brotherhood" in the mid 19th Century; they advocated a return to the intense colour and effect of works produced before the artist Raphael. (Hence the name). The group criticised aspects of Classical convention and realism.
